Sell yourself PHOTOGRAPHER!

Selling is the art giving something in exchange for money. It should be the same to you photographer. Exchange your creativity for money to your targeted audience. Fact! no sales no cash in the bank. No matter how creative and technically good you may be with photography, but if there are no sales you are as good as a person who just started in photography. I am talking to photographers who need to make money using photography.

There are various ways of selling your services direct to your market, that is place adverts on magazines that your clients would likely to read them (wedding magazines); online classifieds (gumtree / olx); local newspapers and lastly make a portfolio of evidence.

Portfolio of evidence could be presented to Ad agencies; Event Management Companies; Wedding Planners and Public Relations Agencies. To prepare your own portfolio would depend according to the stream you want to pursue with photography. Portfolio showing product photography could be developed using product that you have in your fridge or food cabinet. Photograph them from different angles and chose the best ones that show your skill. You need to acknowledge that you not representing the brands in your portfolio, but you used them to showcase your skill. To those in concert or events photography, go to events in your area and ask for a permission to shoot the event in exchange of you giving them photos for free and you will use them as reference.

Soon as you get commercial assignments you can start using them as your reference of work done in your portfolio. Go out and sell your services to your targeted audience.

Hello Johannesburg Event

Recently I was invited to one of their events in Fourways – Design Quarter held at a classy restaurant called Buddhata. The magazine just turned 33 years and the celebration was at this mentioned restaurant. It was a bit chilly but people came to celebrate and have fun with Hello JHB team. I had a great time and I met and networked with some of the guests at the party and had loads of fun. Below are some of the shots that I took on the day.

Social media a boost into a photography business

Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein define social media as “a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content.”[2] Furthermore, social media depends on mobile and web-based technologies to create highly interactive platforms through which individuals and communities share, co-create , discuss, and modify user-generated content. It introduces substantial and pervasive changes to communication between organizations, communities and individuals.

Social media if used effectively and correctly by photographers, it could generate more business leads and in some instances immediate business. This is an ingredient that photographers should add into their marketing recipe these days, because people socialise and network using social media.

Networking and connecting with photographers in other parts of the world becomes easy with social media. A blog like this could be created where a photographer could share His/Her photography techniques and refer potential clients to view it. In this blog portfolio of work done could be posted. Portfolio serves as a reference to what you can do for your potential clients.

Connect with other photographers in the world using social media (Facebook; Twitter; 500px; Linkedin; WordPress; Pinterest; Instagram; Youtube and the list goes on). Facebook remains the most-visited social network in the U.S. via PC (152.2 million visitors), mobile apps (78.4 million users) and mobile web (74.3 million visitors), and is multiple times the size of the next largest social site across each platform. Imagine your portfolio be exposed to these millions of people. That could impact positively on your business.

Social media could make your business to generate more profits as it reaches a lot of people in a short space of time. It operates 24hrs a day and can act as your salesman who does not sleep.

Happy Father’s Day – 16 June 2013

To those who have left your kids behind intentionally, I am sure reality kicked in today. You feel it, the pain of leaving kids behind. It is so nice to hear your kids say happy fathers day, it is a remarkable feeling.

Toying with my lion pet

After more than 1000 photos that I took today with my lion, only two speak with me. I retouched them with Photoshop, Alien Skin and HDR Effex Pro softwares to enhance them.

I love photography and it is one of the ways that helps me to relax. I am constantly learning and improving my shots daily. One can never say he is the best or an expert.

I am continuing to better my photography skill so as to give my clients fresh and diversified approaches to photography.
