A wedding to be remembered – Palesa le Kabelo Sekete

‘Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory…

This past weekend I had an opportunity to be one of the photographers at Kabelo and Palesa’s traditional wedding at Sebokeng (Far South of Johannesburg) and Centurion (Pretoria). I was part of the team that was there to freeze the moments for the newlyweds so that they can remind themselves about their big day. This day comes ones. It is a day that has wonderful memories. As a photographer on the day, my duty was to make sure that I freeze the moments for clients to be able to refer back when they look at the photos.

If you will be having an event, I advice you to invest in photography/videography. You can not afford to have mediocre photos because you want to save and forgetting that your big day comes ones. A professional photographer will work hand in hand with you in how you should structure and capture your memories. You will be proud to show off your photo books to your friends and family.  A search on the net will not cost you an arm and a leg, but a cheap photographer might cost you on your memories. There are wedding magazines and the internet to help you search for an event or wedding photographer in your area. Meet with the photographer and ask to see his/her portfolio of work and if you like what you see then ask if he will do a dry-run/wedding rehearsal shoot or not. Then, you can make an informed decision from there on.

I enjoyed working with Kabelo and Palesa Sekete. I had fun fun fun fun. One of Palesa’s friends said ”Palesa was like a dream”. She was stunning and tastefully attired,  Kabelo was stylish. I have posted a few pictures for you to enjoy and see how I captured the day. Do enjoy 🙂 🙂 🙂

Ms Gay and Mr Lesbian Beauty Pageant, presented by Goapele

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The Miss Gay and Mr Lesbian Beauty pageant was held in Kagiso, Johannesburg West on the 17th Of November 2012. It was an event organised by Goapele Stationers and Bold Moves. This was an interesting event that challenged people with a negative attitude against homosexuals. Honestly, I was also not comfortable as this was the first time to do such a photography assignment in my life. I did not know how to react or act amongst them. I kept cool and focused on doing what I know best – PHOTOGRAPHY.

It is a fact, whether we like it or not Gay people are here to stay. We can go to the nearest sea and kiss the biggest shark there, they will not go anywhere anytime soon. It is a matter of accepting and moving on with life. Focus on what matters most to you and do not make it your worry that they will varnish.

Some of the acts that I had witnessed at the event were not pleasing to the eye. I reminded myself that this is their territory and I am only here to do my work and not to judge people. It was the first time in my life to see a master of ceremony presenting with an underwear and running around the hall.

In a nutshell it was a violence free event with no casualties and thanks to Brian Sibidla and his team who provided necessary manpower to ensure that we were safe.  The organisers are intending to have the event annually and it will be bigger. This event was planned within three weeks without a budget and it went very well.  Postmorten analysis of this past event will help the organisers to work on what needs to be improved, so that the following event could be better and attract more sponsors.

Phew! what an event… a Job is a Job.

Self Portrait

Self Potrait

Snapped by my cousin who happens to be a photographer and a motivational speaker – Bateng Motshwane.

We were playing with our cameras at a client’s premises.  What can you do if you are an hour early and your client is 1hr 15minutes late. Well we practiced and improve our skill for that time. Due to not having more objects to photograph, we became main objects of our own photos. i saw this picture in my mind and forced him to see it in his mind. After several shots, he gave me what I needed at the time. I love the way he captured me. I was not in deep thoughts, but he captured my facial expression very well, the way I wanted. He is a good student on mobile art photography school. 🙂 🙂

“A good photographer will take good photographs with mediocre equipment easier than a poor photographer will with expensive gear”. This is a very interesting statement and so true. I have seen and met immature (wanna be) photographers boasting about their gears and not about their photo and art. To them having an expensive camera means you are a good photographer and having an entry level camera means you are not a photographer. My answer to them is, let us compare the photos. An expensive camera will not help you to compose and design your photo. Expensive cameras do not have a composition button, as a photographer you need to know how to compose a photo so that the output should be be appealing to the eye. Catchy photos are memorable and are not designed by an expensive camera.

The simpler the better.
